The town of Kelvington, picturesquely located in the parkland region of Saskatchewan, offers a winning combination of big town services and small-town hospitality.
Named after scientist and inventor Baron William T. Kelvin, the town is surrounded by numerous lakes, including Fishing Lake, Greenwater Lake and Round Lake, and there are both regional and provincial parks close by. The scenic surrounds provide an abundance of recreational activities all year round, including swimming, waterskiing and tennis in the summer and ice fishing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter.

Some of the best hunting, fishing and wildlife areas in the province are located adjacent Kelvington. Hunters frequent the area in pursuit of game such as deer, elk, moose, bear, ducks, geese and partridge, while fishermen come to the district seeking northern pike, walleye, and rainbow trout.
In the warmer months the manicured 9-hole grass golf course and community swimming pool are perfect places to while away a few leisurely hours outdoors. Well-equipped campgrounds allow campers to enjoy getting back to nature while playgrounds make entertaining children easier. Kelvington also has plenty of indoor entertainment, including a dance school, bowling alley, hockey, skating and curling rinks and gymnastics.
Grain and livestock farming are the major rural activities around Kelvington, which has a population of about 1000. The area is popular with snowmobilers, with the Route 66 snowmobile trail leading directly out of Kelvington and some of the top trails in the province nearby.
Kelvington is known as Canada's 'hockey factory' as it is the birthplace of six well-known NHL players, who are commemorated on large hockey cards near the south entrance of town. Hockey players are well catered for, with a rink that has excellent rink times and low fees. There is even a summer hockey school, taught by the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, to help players perfect form and technique.
Several towns and cities are accessible from Kelvington, including Saskatoon, Regina and Prince Albert (all about 2 ½ to 3 hours away) and Yorkton (1 ½ hours). However, Kelvington offers many of the amenities and services of a larger town (see sidebars).

A variety of accommodation is available in Kelvington, including a motel, a hotel and bed and breakfast establishments. There are several choices of restaurants providing a range of delicious meals, as well as a bakery, grocery store and various catering services.
Trades people, including electricians, plumbers and carpenters, are available to help those that need assistance in these areas. There is an airport nearby and STC Bus Service. Several newspapers provide information and updates on what is happening in Kelvington and the surrounding districts and a variety of radio stations are available. Senior citizens enjoy using the senior citizens centre and the town also has a Legion Hall.
Community activities include a summer hockey school and hockey tournament (third week of July), Kelvington Agricultural Society Fair, parade, chuck wagon races (August long weekend, Moonlight Madness shopping (November) and Lionellles Craft Bazaar (November).
Young people can choose from a variety of youth groups, organizations and activities, including boys and girls group, catechism, Sunday school, youth choir, soccer, minor hockey, baseball, fastball, youth bowling and a variety of high school sports.
Service groups have a strong presence and include the Kelvington Men's Service Club, Lionelles, Knights of Columbus, Legion, Neighbors and Friends, Friendship Club, North Country Women, various church groups, an agricultural society, museum group, hospital auxiliary, Trailblazers Snowmobile Club, Red Hat Society, seniors group and an adult choir.
